One more reason we love Tidd’s photos is that he was good at what he did. He didn’t take random shots: he thought about things like composition and lighting and he very likely staged many of his photos. At the same time, he accomplished this while making the whole process look spontaneous. With his interest in photo-journalism, he wasn’t afraid to experiment; for example, he didn’t always adhere to traditional “full-frontal” portraiture. And this spirit of adventure and exploration may be what elevated Tidd from a hobbyist to an artist.
