Some of the Yukon’s smaller posts weren’t accessible by steamboats, and other types of watercraft were required to reach them. One of these posts was Pelly Banks, 75 miles from Ross River on the Pelly River. Supplies for the post were dropped off by the riverboat Thistle at Ross River then loaded on a scow to be freighted to Pelly Banks. Part of the trip involved navigating through the rapids of Hoole Canyon. Claude took a series of photos of this trip, which involved several men to assist in loading and unloading supplies, and using ropes and poles to move the scow when necessary.
