Among the Tidds' friends was Louis Bouvette who discovered the silver-lead ore deposit on Keno Hill (then known as Sheep Mountain) in 1919. Bouvette was raised with horses on the Prairies and horses remained central to his life, a fact suggested by several of Claude's photographs. Bouvette originally attempted to reach the Klondike in 1898, but didn't arrive until three years later, long after the best claims had been staked and worked out. He was still actively prospecting in the 1930s when Claude and Mary knew him. (Gold and Galena, 245-246)
